The 3rd 50 mile Race For The Rainforest started at 5:00 a.m. on Earth Day, April 22nd, 2001.
The race consisted of 25 2-mile loops through Audubon Park in New Orleans, LA. Commemorative organic cotton non-toxic ink t-shirts were awarded to all 7 starters, who all
completed at least 5 loops.
The race was won by the only finisher, injury-plagued race founder Steve Morrow, who managed to break 12 hours only because 5:00 a.m. starter Larry Schlueter returned to
pace him the last 5 loops. Larry had been running exceptionally well and would have won this race by a huge margin had he not had to leave at 9:00 a.m. to join his wife Hazel for their
weekly radio show on WWOZ FM in New Orleans.
The date for the 4th Race for the Rainforest is set for Earth Day, April 22nd, 2004.
